I was raised in a small town in Indiana. The community I grew up in was, and still is, a community that gives back. Those in need, whether it’s emotional or financial, are lifted up and supported by everyone else. It is the most powerful form of leading-by-example. Because I was raised this way, I have become a natural nurturer. Not to mention, I’m a Virgo, so I’m seriously hardwired for this stuff!

I recently visited a school in the Dominican Republic with Beach Bum Cares. The teachers and students were in dire need for the supplies we donated. The sense of guilt that knowing what we donated would not be enough to last them, was overwhelming. But to see how grateful everyone was to receive what we gave was the greatest gift of all. And knowing that Beach Bum Cares will always strive to give and donate to these communities gives a resounding sense of hope. I am very fortunate to be able to travel to beautiful destinations, but there is so much more to these places than the beautiful beaches and luxurious resorts. More often than not, their communities and schools are in need of funding and supplies. I try to lead by example like my family and neighbors taught me. Beach Bum Cares gives me the opportunity to constantly be active in assisting those in need.

I am so grateful to be on the board of Beach Bum Cares. I am honored to continue to grow and learn from those that we are trying to help. This work helps me keep my life and my priorities in check. We are constantly working to give a better future to children who are in desperate need for an education. My hope is that others will see how easy it is to give while traveling and the idea will continue to spread.
